US Cash Grains-Soy basis steady-firm, improving at processing sites
CHICAGO, Oct 22 (Reuters) -Basis bids for soybeans were mostly steady to stronger in the U.S. Midwest on Tuesday as the harvest started to wrap up in some areas and a few processors raised their bids, spot checks showed.
* The soybean basis firmed by 10 cents at soybean crushing plants in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Lincoln, Nebraska, and by 5 cents at Decatur, Illinois, a processing hub.
* However, the bean basis fell by 4 cents at a Cincinnati, Ohio, elevator.
* Corn basis bids were steady to firmer as well, improving by 3 cents a bushel at Cincinnati and at an ethanol facility in Union City, Indiana.
* The U.S. Department of Agriculture said late on Monday that the U.S. soybean harvest was 81% complete, well ahead of the five-year average of 67%, and the corn harvest was 65% complete, ahead of its five-year average of 52%.
* At the Chicago Board of Trade, corn and soybean futures turned higher, supported by a round of recent export purchases of U.S. grains. As of 11:31 a.m. CDT (1631 GMT), CBOT December corn CZ24 was up 6-1/4 cents at $4.15-3/4 per bushel and November soybeans SX24 were up 14 cents at $9.95 a bushel. GRA/
