American Airlines shares dip, CEO signals demand noise after beat and raise report
** Shares in American Airlines AAL.O down 0.3% in choppy trading on Thursday
** Co raises FY guidance, beats quarterly financial estimates but CEO flags expected softness in demand around election and Halloween
** AAL shares had risen in premarket trading after lifting its FY profit forecast on improved pricing power, a recovery from the missteps in its sales strategy that had led to an exodus of corporate clients
** Co reports $13.65 bln Q3 rev. compared with Wall Street consensus est. for $13.49 bln while adj EPS of $0.30 compared with a consensus view of $0.16, according to LSEG
** AAL upped its full-year 2024 adj EPS target to between $1.35 and $1.60 from its previous forecast range of between $0.70 and $1.30 issued in July
** Shares last traded around $12.80 after earlier hitting $13.63, its highest point since May 28
** In comparison median Wall St PT for stock is $12, according to LSEG, which shows 21 analyst ratings: 2 'strong buy,' 4 'buy,' 13 'hold' and 2 'sell' recommendations
** YTD shares in AAL down ~7.5% vs gain of ~12% for S&P 500 consumer discretionary sector .SPLRCD
** Elsewhere in the airline industry, shares in Southwest LUV.N were off 3.6% after it posted a surprise profit and ended a bitter battle with an activist investor
